Hosmer Library

Minneapolis, minnesota

The Hosmer Library was built in 1916 and had not seen any major remodeling or refurbishments since 1997. As a Carnegie library – one of the last four in Minneapolis – the facility has been designated an historic structure.

Hennepin County selected Noor Companies to selectively remodel and refurbish approximately 10,000 SF of the library, including an additional 1,000 SF of staff space, to update the library and make it more efficient and customer friendly. Our construction work centered preserving the historic nature of the building and interior including fire places, millwork on windows, and refurbishing skylight and maintaining the integrity of the structure while transforming the facility to meet today’s needs. The improvements included the relocation of some public areas to better accommodate customers and replacement of shelving, end panels, carpeting and furniture.

As a social enterprise we also had a mission to include subcontractors of color that represented the community the library was located as well as workforce development for 18 clients that were part of the Hennepin County probation system to help them develop skills in construction and ultimately build a career in a high paying industry.
